Worth the money? Yes — if you plan wisely

Is Saint Lucia Worth the Hype for Your Honeymoon?

When it came time to plan our honeymoon, I wanted something different.

Normally, I’m the type of traveler who loves being on the go — exploring nonstop, trying new activities, and squeezing everything possible into a trip. But after months of wedding planning, I realized I didn’t want an itinerary-packed vacation.

I wanted to completely check out.

I wanted slow mornings, ocean air, and days spent listening to waves crash against the shore. I wanted my thoughts to drift away with the tide. For once, I wasn’t looking for chaos or adventure every second of the day — I wanted peace.

As avid travelers, choosing a honeymoon destination was honestly harder than expected because we had so many places in mind. Funny enough, we didn’t even realize Saint Lucia was considered such a popular honeymoon destination at first. We were simply searching for beautiful weather, good energy, and somewhere that offered both relaxation and experiences.

And honestly? Saint Lucia ended up being the perfect balance of both.

The Biggest Thing to Know Before Booking Saint Lucia

One thing I learned while researching is that Saint Lucia almost feels like two completely different vacations depending on which side of the island you stay on.

The north side has more nightlife, parties, excursions, and a busier atmosphere. Meanwhile, the south side feels slower, more scenic, romantic, and nature-focused with mountains, waterfalls, mud baths, and breathtaking views.

Looking back, I wish I had known the timing strategy a little better. We later learned that many people prefer staying in the south during the quieter weekdays and spending weekends in the north where more events and activities happen.

Still, we made the most of both sides of the island — and I’m honestly glad we experienced each version of Saint Lucia.

Rabot Hotel from Hotel Chocolat Was My Favorite Stay

Without question, my favorite stay was at Rabot Hotel from Hotel Chocolat.

It felt like the kind of place you escape to when you truly need to disconnect from the world. The views were unreal — mountains, trees, birds, and endless greenery the moment we opened the balcony doors.

Even the shower was outdoors, which definitely felt like an experience on its own.

The hotel had this peaceful energy that made it easy to slow down and actually be present. We spent time at the infinity pool overlooking the Pitons, explored the chocolate plantation, and even learned how cacao is turned into chocolate during one of the tours.

That ended up being one of my favorite activities of the entire trip.

Now, full honesty? I would give Hotel Chocolat a 10/10 for views and experience… but my honest score is 9/10 because I definitely wished there was AC at night. ( Maybe that’s just my American side talking.)

The Beauty of Saint Lucia

Driving through the island felt surreal.

Saint Lucia is filled with dramatic mountains, lush greenery, winding roads, beaches, waterfalls, and viewpoints that genuinely make you stop and stare. Every drive felt scenic.

Some of our favorite experiences included:

  • Visiting the Sulphur Springs mud baths
  • Exploring Soufrière
  • Seeing the Pitons up close
  • Relaxing at Sugar Beach
  • Visiting Fort Rodney for panoramic views
  • Sailing around the island
  • Discovering local restaurants
  • Meeting another couple and spending most of the day exploring together

My Honest Thoughts About Saint Lucia

Here’s the real, unfiltered version:

The Pros

  • Beautiful scenery everywhere
  • Perfect mix of relaxation and adventure
  • Amazing beaches on the west side
  • Great excursions and outdoor activities
  • Very romantic atmosphere
  • Ideal for couples who want both luxury and nature

The Cons

  • Some roads are extremely winding
  • Food was honestly a little underwhelming overall (we stayed at the Royalton Resort in St. Lucia). Unfortunately at this same resort, one restaurant experience got ruined by a water bug appearing during dinner while the waiter barely reacted and completely walked away and pretended to not notice it.
  • Depending on where you stay, some hotels may not have AC

And honestly, that’s what made it unforgettable.
